Fake Experience Certificates: How to Spot Them in 2026

Forged employment letters and inflated tenure are the most common hiring fraud in India. Here's how AI verification catches them at the source.

Fake experience certificates are one of the most common — and most preventable — forms of hiring fraud in India. They're easy to produce, hard to spot from the document alone, and almost always crumble under source verification.

Common red flags on the document

  • Generic company letterhead with no registered address
  • Signatures that don't match HR records on file
  • Tenure that overlaps with another claimed employer
  • Designations inconsistent with the candidate's stated experience level

Why document inspection isn't enough

A well-made forgery passes a visual inspection. The only reliable signal is confirmation from the original employer's HR or payroll — or, where available, statutory data like UAN contribution history.

Catching it before offer

Run source verification in parallel with interviews instead of after the offer. The earlier a fabricated employer is flagged, the cheaper the unwind — and the less likely a bad hire ends up inside your company.
